Study Abroad Florence: Jerome from Lebanon

  • What is your name?
    Jerome
  • Please write a short intro about yourself
Engineering student coming from Lebanon, Finishing the masters in geoengineering in the university of florence in the field of natural risks and hazards
  • Why study or intern abroad in Florence?
The program published was suitable to my expectations and interests
  • Is Florence a safe place to study abroad (perhaps mention also some nice/cool neighborhood to hang out) ?
quite a safe place compared to other metropolitan cities,
  • Cultural differences (food, family, work, etc..)
the food is quite satisfactory given that I come from the same Mediterranean region. However, and obviously, some items can not be found. Personally, this is not a problem since I am quite fond of the italian cuisine
  • A fun story to share
the first days I came, just starting to learning italian, I went to the supermarket to buy food ,including a cucumber. The night before, an italian friend was teaching some words, and of course as all foreigner friends do, I was taught some bad words in italian. Entering the supermarket in a confident manner, and in my mind the word “cetrioli” is to ask for a cucumber, I take a cucumber, go to the cashier, hold the cucumber, point it at her saying” Ciao, una porcella” , and the rest is italian anger :;)
  • What to pack before travelling to Florence?
Clothes, gloves, pens and papers since they can be quite expensive for a student
  • Must do weekend trips (ie. in Tuscany, Rome, Milan, etc…)
    terni roma
  • Any advice to the newcomers?
just enjoy your time, and live the moment. Appreciate daily the beauty of Firenze
